Volunteers
Our work is supported by volunteers who believe in the goals and activities of the AJWCEF.
Volunteers can assist in a number of ways, but because registration as an AJWCEF volunteer is restricted to AJWCEF members, please apply to become an AJWCEF volunteer first.
The types of volunteer work available at present are as below. Please contact the AJWCEF Head Office for further details.
1. Operations Volunteer
We are seeking volunteers to assist with the day-to-day operations of the AJWCEF. Volunteers would primarily be involved in assisting in publicity for seminars, symposiums and other events held by the AJWCEF. If you are interested in wildlife conservation and rescue, environmental preservation, international exchange and contributing to international society, or interested in other related activities, please contact us. We are particularly looking for volunteers with leadership skills to drive activities in regional areas (Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Hokuriku, Chubu, Kansai, Chugoku, Shikoku, Kyushu, Okinawa).
2.Animal Care Volunteer
Animal care volunteers will work at the coal-face of wildlife and environmental conservation, and so a number of conditions apply. Given that handling wildlife differs from handling domestic animals, a basic but solid knowledge of the animals and relevant training is required, as is some knowledge of zoonotic diseases. Only people who have completed an introductory or more advanced training under the AJWCEF's own system are eligible to register as volunteer candidates. Only volunteers who are able to spend 2 months or more at their allocated facility will be eligible.
The AJWCEF, however, does intend to undertake a variety of other activities in the future, such as planting eucalyptus trees to regenerate wildlife habitat that has been destroyed. Unlike with the animal care volunteers, no particular conditions apply to this sort of activity. Anyone from children to the elderly can participate to the extent of their own physical capabilities. The AJWCEF will place notices calling for such volunteers as needed, so please keep an eye on our web site!
3.Volunteers to Support the AJWCEF at The Conference of Parties to the Treaty on Biological Diversity (COP 10)
The AJWCEF is aiming to participate in the COP 10 to be held in October 2010 in Nagoya, Japan, in the form of the presentation of AJWCEF research results and a booth at the Interactive Fair. Once our participation in this event is confirmed, we will be asking for volunteers to assist in publicity activities at the COP 10 venue.
